Some More Doodle-Sketches…

I’ve been doing some more sketches and trying to incorporate some ideas I’ve found and gathered together over the last few years. This sketch shows the opposite view of the interior to my would-be handmade Cob House – which I shared in a previous post, and that you can find here.

Here, you can see the entrance to the bathroom  and a little peep of the wood burning stove that would be used to keep the room warm and toasty, and also to heat the water for bathing/washing. I quite like the idea of utilising the heat in a stove flue to heat water. Noel Higgins of Teach Nollaig – an amazing handmade Tiny House on wheels in Ireland – constructed a very interesting water heating system around the flue of his little stove – which can be seen on his Facebook Page here.

Those of you who are avid readers of the various Tiny House blogs may remember a feature on Noel’s Teach Nollaig – here’s a link…and beware…the photos of Noel’s achingly beautiful handmade home WILL make you want one all of your own!

Sleeping Nook

The Sleeping-Nook in the living room would not only provide additional sleeping space, and a little privacy with the curtains – but the overhead area would be great for some large storage cupboards – perfect for storing larger, bulkier things that would ordinarily take up valuable space.

Bathroom

Surely no Cob House is authentic without some inlaid glass bottle/plate/brick windows?! I think a few over the doorway into the bathroom would be lovely. Also using large mirrors – as shown in the above sketch would maximise the light in the Northern side of the house – where there would be fewer windows.

Under Stairs

To the left of the front-door (just out of sight in the above sketch) would be the “Under stair” storage area. Just peeping out from around the corner are the stairs to the upper floor, and beyond that would be the rocket mass heater – meaning the stairs and cupboard storage underneath would be warm – perfect for storing wet coats and boots, or perhaps even blankets and bedding.

That’s it for now…
